As You Like It is a romantic comedy about Rosalind, who is forced to flee her home and disguises herself as a man while escaping to the Forest of Arden. In the forest, she encounters Orlando, the man she loves, and playfully tests his devotion while hidden in disguise. Through mistaken identities, witty banter, and multiple love stories, the play explores themes of love, identity, and transformation.

Playing Rosalind in As You Like It was an exciting opportunity to explore one of Shakespeare’s most intelligent and dynamic heroines. Rosalind is witty, emotionally perceptive, and constantly shaping the world around her. Stepping into her journey meant embracing both her vulnerability and her playful confidence, especially through her disguise as Ganymede, which allows her to challenge social expectations and explore love from a different perspective. The role pushed Meher to think deeply about language and connection. Rosalind’s wit and wordplay require precision, timing, and a strong relationship with scene partners. She learned how much trust and spontaneity are needed to keep Shakespeare’s text alive and responsive in the moment. What she loves most about Rosalind is her agency. She drives the story forward, orchestrates the play’s romantic chaos, and ultimately brings people together. Playing her reminded Meher of how joyful and empowering Shakespeare’s heroines can be, and how comedy can create space for both humour and emotional honesty.
